Constructed Reality

Some other examples of how the media is a construction of reality is the tv show CSI which makes the job of a crime scene investigator look so glamourized and easy, while alot of time and money goes into every single one to make it look more simple. This affects the way people may think of being a crime scene investigator because they only show the cool or interesting parts. Also all the photo retouched pictures in the magazines is another example of contructed reality because people are thinking these images are real. Which can lead to further issues like trying to acheieve the unattainable perfect body. We cannot destinguish between the reality because we are exposed to the media so often.

Photo Retouching

I believe that photo retouching has most definatley gone overboard. At first it was very usefull when models may have a temporary flaw on their face or something and that could easily be airbrushed away, but now it they go way overboard when retouching to the point where these arn't even these peoples real bodies. It has also altered the way I look in photos in magazines because now I know that in most cases these models have been retouched to look even thinner than they already are. I think this could be actually quite harmful for people who read these magazines who see these non-realistic images of extremly skinny people. This may also make people who are maybe not that size feel bad about themselves and affect their body image in a negative way. Personally I dont mind photo retouching but to a certain extent.

Dependency on all forms of media

I believe im actually quite dependent on the media since I use my cellphone basically like all day every day along with the computer which I generally use at least once a day. I use media to keep up with everything from the news to the new sweet tv shows, movies and music. Without media I would most likely be lost, since thats where I get alot of my information, but sadly in todays day and age most teenagers are alot like me with all the new technology available to us. The media uses us as an easy way to advertise their products and get us to buy them. Usually they use very interesting questions or possibly make us feel bad about ourselves to try to encourage us to go and purchase their products. Anyways to conclude I most definatley believe that the mass media has got a hold on me.
